National Guard: More than 3,400 rescued so far

The Louisiana National Guard has been instrumental in rescuing people threatened by high waters in south Louisiana.

The National Guard has released video taken on Sunday during rescue operations on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge.

In the video, guardsman aid citizens with transportation from areas not accessible by normal cars or trucks.

“It’s been a busy 48 hours, the rivers continue to rise and we’re reacting to that, largely a search and rescue operation still at this point,” said Colonel Ed Bush.

BATON ROUGE -The Louisiana National Guard began providing shelter support for the Baton Rouge River Center Sunday night.

According to a statement Monday, generic the national guard has 3,300 guardsmen assisting with emergency flood operations, evacuations, search and rescue, engineering missions, food distribution and security.

As of Monday afternoon, the Louisiana National Guard rescued 7,600 citizens and 1,200 pets. The guard says it has issued nearly 17,000 MRE’s, 213,690 bottles of water, 260 tarps and 714,000 sandbags.
