Gov. Chris Christie has ordered the leader of New Jersey’s National Guard to meet the U.S. military’s fitness requirements after it came to light that the commander was reprimanded by the Pentagon last year for his excessive weight and for missing physical-fitness tests.

Christie — who serves as commander-in-chief of the 8,600 citizen soldiers in the Guard — has given Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cunniff 90 days “to meet his obligations,” according to a statement by a spokesman for the governor.

AUSTIN, cialis Texas (AP) – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is extending the deployment of the National Guard troops at the border with Mexico due to a spike in the number of unaccompanied minors crossing into the state.

Abbott, a Republican, criticized federal officials Tuesday in the wake of U.S. Border Patrol figures that show more than 10,000 unaccompanied children crossing into the U.S. in October in November. That is double the number of crossings in the same two months last year.

It was not clear how much weight the general must lose. Cunniff took a fitness test in November 2013, his first in more than three years. He flunked when his waist size was measured at 43.5 inches — 4.5 inches larger than what was allowed.

Cunniff declined an interview request. But the National Guard released a statement in which the general acknowledged he failed to meet the Air Force’s fitness requirements in recent years.

FLINT (WJRT) – (01/29/16) – National Guard soldiers have been in Flint for two weeks now, helping with the water emergency. While several of them live in the area and are able to be at home each night, a number of them live too far away.

The National Guard puts them up in a local hotel, so they don’t have to sleep in the Saginaw Armory or in a tent, but being away from home takes some adjustment.
