The helicopter, the mission and the mindset have changed for the Tennessee National Guard’s 1-230th. Eight months into their transition to Blackhawk helicopters, the unit is giving us a first-hand look at what the massive choppers are capable of.

In January, the helicopter assault battalion transitioned to Blackhawks when the Army phased out the small attack Kiowa Warriors. The unit found out while they were deployed to Afghanistan.

“We were the last ones [Kiowa units] in Afghanistan to have a combat mission there,” said CW4 Brad Hutsell, a pilot who’s been in the Tennessee National Guard for 30 years.

A helicopter and multiple rescuers were called to Mount Washington in Sargent’s Purchase Sunday afternoon after a 62-year-old hiker suffered a medical emergency.

The Massachusetts man started feeling ill while hiking on the Huntington Ravine Trail.

Rescue crews from multiple agencies were called in but a quick rescue was needed prompting rescuers to call for the availability of a helicopter. A Black Hawk helicopter was launched by the National Guard unit in Concord.

DOUGLAS, MI – A pioneering piece of Coast Guard history has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Francis Metallic Surfboat is a 26-foot, iron-hulled vessel that is one of two known surviving examples of the 19th Century coastal rescue craft.

It will be dedicated at a ceremony held at the Saugatuck-Douglas History Center and Museum, 130 Center St., in Douglas at noon on Saturday, Oct. 15.

New York Army National Guard troops are being praised as heroes after rescuing the pilot from a plane crash that killed two people on Long Island on Sunday.

The soldiers happened to be conducting a sling-load training exercise near Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach when they were suddenly dispatched to the crash site,according to Guard officials.

MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, S.C. — Members of the South Carolina Army National Guard responded to a call for help to rescue an injured hiker from the Sumter National Forest along the Chattooga River near the South Carolina-Georgia border Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016.

When first responders realized they were not able to evacuate the patient due to the remote location, they called for support from the South Carolina National Guard, explained U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael Hutto, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 151st Aviation Regiment UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter pilot. The Joint Operations Center then alerted the aviation unit of the mission and a crew responded to the request to provide medevac support.

Nearly 500 people and 61 pets have been rescued by Louisiana National Guardpersonnel as record floods returned to areas that experienced similar conditions earlier this year.

Officials at the National Guard said Saturday that many of the search and rescue operations in the state have been conducted by air during the last 24 hours. Other efforts continue by land and boat.

President Trump may mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up illegal immigrants, according to a new report — though the White House immediately called it “false.”

The Associated Press said it obtained a draft memo that outlines a Trump administration proposal under consideration to mobilize troops in 11 states to round up unauthorized immigrants.
